国务委员兼外交部长王毅北京时间５月１日上午在北京与多米尼加外长巴尔加斯签署《中华人民共和国和多米尼加共和国关于建立外交关系的联合公报》。自公报签署之日起，中华人民共和国和多米尼加共和国相互承认并建立大使级外交关系。
多米尼加政府法务顾问弗拉维奥表示，这一决定“是经过长时间的考量并通过与政商各界广泛协商后做出的，是基于多米尼加人民的需求和对未来的展望而做出的”。
