针对10月5日美国驻斯大使接受斯《每日镜报》采访蓄意挑拨和干涉中斯关系，当日中国驻斯里兰卡使馆发布媒体声明予以严肃澄清和强烈谴责，全文如下：
我们对第三国使节公开挑拨中斯关系感到震惊和强烈不满。中国和斯里兰卡都是主权独立国家，有权根据自己的需要和意愿发展与别国关系，不需要美国来“指导”中斯关系，也不认为美国有这样的资格。中国在斯里兰卡的表现到底如何，早已得到历史的反复检验，斯里兰卡政府和人民会有自己独立的判断和公正的评价。美国干涉别国内政早已不是新闻，此次还要干涉别国外交。这种行径是美国在国际关系中推行霸权主义和强权政治的又一体现，中国人民决不接受，相信斯里兰卡人民也不会接受。
我们奉劝美方尽快改掉指手画脚的坏习惯和双重标准的坏毛病，不要在自身疫情全球最严重的同时去抹黑别国防疫工作，不要在自身违反世界贸易组织裁决的同时去空谈自由贸易，不要在自身千禧年挑战公司协议意图不明的同时去妄议别国合作不透明，不要在肆意轰炸他国、到处设立军事基地、实行单边制裁的同时去诬蔑别国正常经贸合作侵犯主权，这种小丑式的做法只会进一步破坏美国本已岌岌可危的国际形象。
Withgreatshockandstrongdiscontent,theembassylearnedabouttheUSAmbassador’sinterviewwithalocalnewspaper,inwhichaforeignenvoyfromathirdcountryopenlyplayedoffChina-SriLankarelationsandseverelyviolatedthediplomaticprotocol.Whileit’salwaysnotsurprisingtoseetheUSinterferedintoasovereigncountry’sinternalaffairs,thegeneralpublicisstillastonishedtowitnessitsdespicableattempttomanipulateothers’diplomaticrelations.BothChinaandSriLankaasindependentcountrieshavefullrighttodeveloprelationswithforeigncountriesaccordingtoourownneedandwill.HowSriLankaandChinaengagedwitheachotherhasrepeatedlystoodthetestoftime,andthegovernmentandthepeopleofSriLankahavetheirownindependentandfairjudgmentontherelationswithChina.TheUShasnopowerorobligationtolectureonChina-SriLankarelations.Suchnakedhegemony,supremacyandpowerpoliticswillneitherbetoleratedbytheChinesenorbeacceptedbytheSriLankan.
WestronglysuggesttheUSquittheaddictionofpreachingothersandapplyingdoublestandards.Foursimplebuthelpfuladvicestoourarrogantfriendfromtheothersideoftheworld:Don’tslanderothercountries’workinfightingpandemicwhiletoppingtheworldinCOVID-19cases;Don’tpretendtheguardianoffreetradewhileviolatingtheWTOrulings;Don’tholdhighthebanneroftransparencywhilecoveringupitscontroversialMCCagreement;Don’tsmearothers’normalcooperationagainstsovereigntywhilebombingforeigncountries,occupyingoverseasmilitarybasesandimposingunilateralsanctions.Allthoseridiculousandhypocriticalbehaviorswillonlydamageitspoorinternationalreputationwhichisalreadyhangingbyathread.
